Science of Sci-Fi - Apollo 13.  Members only - RSVP required. 

Learning about the SCIENCE in the movie "Apollo 13" starring Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Ed Harris.  PG | 2hr 20min | Drama, Survival, History.

NASA must devise a strategy to return Apollo 13 to Earth safely after the spacecraft undergoes massive internal damage putting the lives of the three astronauts on board in jeopardy. (Based on real events. Much of it filmed in zero gravity.) 

This is not a public event. Members may bring up to 5 non-member guests, free.  All participants must be in 4th grade and up. See ALL Details and Rules on the Game Night Web Page.

This night, March 14, you should come in as early as 5:00, and stay as late as 8:30, so that you can get the most from this educational program. Pizza will be served at 6:30 pm. Please do not bring popcorn, candy, etc. as it makes a mess.

TONIGHT'S SCHEDULE
5:15-8:15 - Examining the Science in the movie "Apollo 13"
6:30: Pizza at $2 per slice and drinks $1.  NOTE: Bring one dollar bills or fives; no large bills that need change. 
8:15-8:30: buffer in case we need to run overtime 
8:30-9:00: free time, social time
 
EDUCATIONAL PURPOSE
We select movies that have an educational purpose, contain as much science as possible, with a fair amount of science fiction. We will stop the viewing at key intervals to discuss and learn: what are the scientific elements; did they get the science right; is there a cinematic technique that highlights the science; etc. The movies will generally be rated PG or PG-13. Some mature language may be expected. Parental discretion is advised.

Enjoy our large common room to play games with your friends or come on your own and join other gaming folk. Bring your own games or play our growing in-house selections. Kitchenette with coffee maker, microwave, and toaster oven is available as well as snacks and drinks to purchase for $1.00 to $1:50. Often we order pizza, which you can purchase for $2.00 a slice.
