HomeTeen Internship or Volunteer

New England Sci-Tech accepts qualified high-school and college age students as interns. These are are unpaid, volunteer positions where we help train you on equipment, tools, and curriculum, mentor you in your activities and projects, and give you leadership opportunities to participate in public service, lead workshops, and mentor others. At the end of your time with us you may request a letter of recommendation for school or college or a certificate of community service hours.

What You Will Do

You will contribute to one or more STEM projects in any number of areas including robotics, electronics, rocketry, amateur radio, 3D design, photography, astronomy, wireless and wired networking, computer science, wood working, product development, or curriculum development. You will also have the opportunity to learn to lead younger students in a variety of STEM activities. You will participate in activities for approximately 2 or more hours a week.

What You Will Need

  • Must be a high school or college student in good standing with no issues with grades or discipline.
  • Satisfactory coursework in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
  • Good analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to do a variety of tasks ranging from simple to complex.
  • A reference from a science teacher who taught you within the past 2 years.

Optional Helpful Skills

  • Currently hold or will soon acquire an amateur radio license.
  • Experience with 3D printers, LASER cutters, CNC machines.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Java, Python, C/C++, Matlab.
  • Experience with design software such as Inkscape, Illustrator, Solid Works, TinkerCAD, FreeCAD, Photoshop, Gimp, etc.
  • Experience in robotics, rocketry, carpentry, photography, music, etc.
