Beginning Latin for Home School (gr 4-8)
Eight Fridays, SEP 13 to NOV 1, 2024, 12:30-3:00 PM.
Students will learn about radio wave propagation, the electromagnetic spectrum, layers of the ionosphere, electronic circuits, radio operation, electrical safety, antennas, and so much more!
Students will learn how to solder electronic circuits and build an FM radio receiver to keep.
For many students, ham radio is a gateway into STEM careers such as Electrical Engineering, Space Exploration (many NASA astronauts are licensed amateur radio operators!), Emergency Management, Radio Systems Specialist, Aerospace Engineering, Medical Fields such as X-ray/MRI technicians.

Our facilities are geared toward children in grade 4 and up. You can hold a rock from outer space (meteorite), or a dinosaur egg, or a tooth from a Woolly Mammoth!

Join us for stargazing at our public telescope nights. On a typical evening we will turn our large 12" diameter telescope toward the moon, planets, stars, space station, and other objects in the night sky.
This event is free and open to the public on scheduled Friday or Saturday evenings, weather permitting. Children are welcome, however they must be supervised by parents at all times. Optional: BYO binoculars, warm jacket, hand sanitizer, bug repellent.

Fox Hunt Attenuator Kit Build - (Seth Kendall KC1PZY)
Together, we will assemble Fox Hunt attenuator kits that fit onto the 70cm (UHF), directional, Yagi-Uda antennas we build in the previous workshop. This is the next step in our quest to assemble a group of well-equipped fox hunters and start doing regular transmitter hunts. These kits are based on the KC9ON Fox Hunt Offset Attenuator kit and the KC9ON v5 Fox Box printed case, and uses BNC connectors. This workshop is primarily a soldering workshop. Adults and youth 4th grade and above are invited, and students do not need to have taken other workshops in the Fox Hunt series.

Terminating Coax Cables - (Jeremy Breef-Pilz KB1REQ)
Jeremy will guide us as we create patch cables to connect from our Fox Hunt Offset Attenuators to our handheld radios. Through this workshop, we‘ll learn to properly strip our coax cables, and crimp on BNC male connectors. The other end of our cables will already have SMA male connectors, ready to plug into our handy talkies. This workshop will involve some fine motor control with razor blades and soldering irons, so parental supervision is recommended. Adults and youth 4th grade and above are invited, and students do not need to have taken other workshops in the Fox Hunt series.

Online by Zoom - Beginner Level – This is a condensed Morse code course with only 6 lessons! Appropriate for children in 5th grade and up. Monday evenings 7:30 to 8:30 pm Eastern Time on OCT 21, 28, NOV 4, 11, 18, 25.
